Toyota RAV4 vs Honda CR-V

Toyota RAV4 vs Honda CR-V

In the world of compact SUVs, the Toyota RAV4 and the Honda CR-V are regarded as long-term standouts ever since they hit the road in the mid-1990s. Today, these SUVs are two of the best-selling vehicles in and around Katy, Sugar Land, Mission Bend, and the rest of Texas.

When figuring out which of these SUVs to purchase for your family, you’re probably considering several factors. In this blog, we’ll cover some of the most important ones so you can make an informed decision.

CR-V Vs. RAV4: Performance and Efficiency

With fluctuating gas prices and unstable supply chains, efficiency is on many consumers’ minds. At the same time, however, you probably don’t want to compromise on power, especially while you’re navigating through traffic on the freeway or driving up a mountain.

Honda offers the CR-V in both gas-powered and hybrid models, which get an EPA-estimated 30 mpg and 38 mpg respectively. The standard, turbo-charged 1.5L inline-4 engine generates 190 hp and 179 lb-ft of torque, which is pretty good, and the hybrid model generates 212 hp of total system output.

However, the Toyota RAV4 offers both better gas mileage and more power out of the gate. This SUV has a fuel type for everyone: gas-powered, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid models are all available. The standard 2.5L engine on the RAV4 produces 203 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, while the hybrid engine has a total output of 219 hp.

For ultimate power, the Toyota RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid boasts a total system output of 308 hp, along with an estimated efficiency rating on electric power of 94 MPGe. The other RAV4 models also have impressive gas efficiency ratings, with an estimated 30 mpg for gas-powered and 40 mpg for the hybrid.

RAV4 Vs. CR-V: Safety and Technology

As manufacturers, both Toyota and Honda are known for their commitment to passenger safety and comfort. Both SUVs offer blind-spot warnings, lane departure alerts, dynamic radar cruise control, and pre-collision systems to keep you safe while driving.

The RAV4 edges out the CR-V in safety though, with its automatic high-beam headlights and road sign recognition feature. You’ll drive with greater peace of mind in the Toyota RAV4.

A similar story plays out for the SUVs’ onboard tech. While they each have user-friendly infotainment systems, including smartphone integration and Bluetooth, the RAV4 offers a larger touch-screen and more speakers than the CR-V.

CR-V Vs. RAV4: Interior Space

In this area (well, volume), the Honda CR-V finally edges past the Toyota RAV4. While both SUVs can seat five passengers comfortably, the CR-V features a total passenger volume of 105.9 cubic ft, about 7 cubic feet more than the RAV4’s 98.9. The same is true regarding the vehicles’ available cargo space.

Which Is Better: the 2022 Toyota RAV4 or Honda CR-V?

Simply put, the new RAV4 is a better SUV in almost all the ways that matter. If you’re looking for a powerful yet efficient, safe and comfortable, stylish and fun compact SUV, you can’t do much better than a Toyota RAV4.
